Commissions

Mixed media photograph portraits can catch the fleeting innocence of youth, celebrate the depth of a special relationship, or honor one's lifework. I would love to work with you to honor your loved one through art. Together we will choose a photograph of your beloved, a color scheme for the background, and a color scheme and "feel" for the clothing. I will adjust the image in Photoshop and have it printed onto eco-canvas fabric. I will then sculpt clothing and hand sew this onto the figure. Your heirloom portrait will then be sealed ensuring its longevity. Each artwork can be periodically cleaned using a soft paintbrush to remove any dust. These gallery-wrapped (1.5" deep) canvas art pieces come ready to hang with sturdy D-rings and wire for hanging flush against the wall.

A note regarding copyright and photographs:

Please make sure that you hold the copyright on any photographs that you wish to use as reference material. If you do not own photographs, you must have permission from the copyright holder for the photograph/s to be used as the basis for a portrait commission.

Agreement

Once we have had an initial discussion on size, composition, cost, procedure, etc, I will send you an Agreement document detailing all aspects of the project that have been discussed. I ask for a 40% deposit before I begin work on the piece with the remainder due on completion.

Guarantee

Of course, I want you to be totally thrilled with your portrait. If, however, you are not completely happy with your final artwork, and I am not able to adjust the portrait to your liking, then I will not insist that you buy it. The deposit, however, remains non-refundable (I might add, everyone has loved their art and hopefully this remains a perfect record!).

My Copyright

I retain the copyright on all the artwork produced by myself, Julie Barrett Cataldo, including any artwork resulting from a commission. This also includes the right to use images of the artwork in promotional material or on my website.

You may not reproduce any piece of artwork or artwork print in any form without prior permission. You may, however, display commissioned artwork on social media (Facebook, etc), but it must not be reproduced in any other form whatsoever.

Commission Canvas Portrait Pricing

Every portrait commission is unique and the fee quoted will take into account size, scale, medium, number of subjects, clothing, and background detail. My custom work runs a bit more than my ready-to-ship pieces which takes into account the additional time that I spend to create a piece that meets all your wishes. The following sizes and costs are therefore examples only and are intended only as a rough guide.

8” x 10” $195

11” x 14” $225

12” x 16” $265

16” x 20” $425

Commission Portrait Pillow Pricing

In addition to commissioned portraits on canvas, I can create a custom pillow with the portrait of your choice to honor a loved one. I can work with fabric that you supply that is significant to the subject of the piece, or work with you to choose a color scheme from fabric in my stash.

These pillows are handmade in much the same way as my canvas art. I upload the photo into photoshop and have it printed onto eco-canvas fabric, which I then accent with paint or dye. I use this printed fabric as the front of the pillow and “dress” the image with reclaimed textiles. The back of the pillow is made up of the same textiles as the clothing on the portrait. If you choose, I will add an infusion of lavender inside your portrait pillow for no charge. All of my portrait pillows are spot clean only.

8”x9” pillow: $65

12”x12” pillow: $80
